Chimney and the TOAD

I woke up early this morning and fished the morning bite. I used a pink and white rooster tail, which is normally a trout lure, but I knocked the crappie and bass dead. First cast and almost every cast. Sunrise is the key, because as soon as the sun came all the way up, the bite settled down.

Funny and true story: We were quite a few miles towards the middle of Nebraska when Marci hollered and clapped so loud, I almost swerved off the road. She spied...

...Starbucks

We went inside, where they were playing jazz, good stuff, too. Stan Getz. We ordered our coffees and didn't have to explain our order. They came correctly made and tasting good. We realized two things... 1- we are pathetic coffee snobs, 2- we have been away from the Northwest long enough to start missing certain things.

This guy was fun to watch. Crop dusting across the plains.

We ate lunch out of the back of our car next to the Sod House Museum. When the government offered free land to settlers of Nebraska, there were no trees. Settlers had to make houses out of dirt and live on the land for 5 years to claim it as there own.

Just south of Scottsbluff, Nebraska...Chimney Rock stands proud.

Just across the Wyoming border, Torrington looks like a nice little town. It actually looks similar in size to Colville. Uncle Kent and Aunt Alice live just up the hill from downtown. The kids met some neighbor kids and had fun. Alice fed us well with a beef roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, cauliflower, salad and banana splits for dessert. VERY good food and great fun.
Uncle Kent said that since we are in Wyoming now, this isn't the FROG anymore. It is now called the TOAD!
I have really enjoyed hearing stories about my mother, Sybil, and looking at old family pictures. Tomorrow, we will see the ranch and maybe Fort Laramie.

Uncle Kent and Aunt Alice saying goodnight to the kids.
Good night to you, too. Brent
PS- I am not as patient with dumb drivers as I was two weeks ago, but there are a lot of dumb drivers out there. I passed another person reading a book while driving on the interstate. I will work on patience.

Well Brent, as long as you aren't "crabby" - that's the main thing as it seems Ella is staying on tabs with everyone's emotional status throughout the trip. LOL WOOHOO on the Starbucks! Totally worth a clap and a swerve!! But the question is... Could Marci's bladder tolerate a Mocha? hehe

Great to see Kent and Alice! Say hello! Sounds like a fun day tomorrow. Can't wait to hear about it. I have fond memories of our visit... um... that was so many years ago I would rather not say it out loud. LOL I do remember a squished snake in the middle of the road right after we were picked up at the airport and during the same drive Uncle Kent taking a notice to how talkative I apparently was. LOL :)

So I gather no styrofoam cups to go?
That's ok to be a coffee snob. I'm a dog snob. :)

For some reason, I was more excited reading the FROG/TOAD when you were headed eastward. Still miss you guys. I've been very restless since you left.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!!

That's great the kids were able to meet some family there. I'm laughing at the sod house. Reminds me of "Vacation"

Clark: Who wants to see a house made of mud?
Audrey: It's not mud Dad, it's SOD
Clark: That's right Audrey, and when they ran out of sod they used mud!
