We passed the World's Largest Truck Stop

We stopped in Des Moines, Iowa and ate lunch. We got to see briefly Marci's cousin, Sarah. Des Moines was a much bigger city than I anticipated.

We crossed the border into Nebraska. There are waaaaay too many people with Nebraska Cornhusker stickers in their car windows. It gave me flash backs to my college roommate, Nick. We had our apartment decked out in Idaho Vandal colors, and as soon as I left to student teach, he turned the place into a red and black nightmare.

I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a VERY nice cigar at our campsite in the Pawnee Lake Campground, just west of Lincoln, Nebraska (more on the stogy later). I was extremely pleased with our campsite. We had a blast there today.

I took the kids fishing at the lake after we rode bicycles, popped "pop-its" fire works by riding bicycles over them, ate chicken tacos, and played with the kids from the campsite up the road.

Ella is my fisher queen. She loves to go fishing with Dad. She can cast better than most adults that I've seen, and she really does well reeling in a catch. She asked me if we could go fishing every five minutes from the moment we rode into the campsite.

The fishing was slow and the kids couldn't resist all of that water. They had to enjoy the evening sun with a dip in the lake.

I decided to join them. That's me way out there fishing with the kids splashing around me. I hooked into a few. One was a really nice bass. One was too small to brag about. I will wake up early and try the morning bite before the kids and Marci get up. Ella will be jealous.

After fishing, it was time for a campfire and I made popcorn.

Marci and I sitting by the fire. Sam and Ella make pretty good photographers.
About the cigar today. It ranked in my top 5 cigar smokes. It was a CAO MX2 that my buddy, Marc (Dog Boy) Harger brought up to Colville to give me before we left on our trip. So far, here is the list of top 5...
Brent's Top 5 Cigar Experiences of ALL-TIME
5. Today's CAO, sitting in the Pawnee Lake Campground in Lincoln, Nebraska while my wife napped and the kids played with fireworks and bicycles.
4. About 9 years ago in the Green Mill in Chicago with Joe and James Traynor, listening to good jazz that was being broadcast live on the radio. The musicians harassed us for our cigar smoke and my buddy Shawn (in Spokane at the time) heard the whole thing listening to the broadcast.
3. 2 years ago - Onyx Reserve with the Dog Boy in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
2. Must have been 18 years ago - Van load of Vandalizers B-Ball band en route to Boise. Al splurged some of the alumni money on Cigars for the band.
1. Just this last April - Sharing a Freedom Point Cigar with my Dad in his shop after a good day's work, rain pouring on the outside, a fire in the stove and country music on the radio.
Any of the FROG faithful want to post their Cigar moments, feel free. Marci just likes it when I put the darn things out. Brent
PS - We are all looking forward to seeing Uncle Kent and Aunt Alice tomorrow.

Brent: Your #1 stoggie was pretty much my favorite in the past several years for sure...the little shop full of smoke lingered on for days. I think the company is what makes it memorable, like the Freedom Point labels that we had with all the guys at the Freedom Pt. blowout....good times.

We are looking forward to seeing you too and hope you make it to Torrington for supper.
Uncle Kent and Aunt Alice
It makes me so sad to read this because I miss you guys!! Brent, Chris used to be really into trying different types of cigars until I told him he had enough expensive hobbies already. LOL I should ask him if he has heard of the ones you mentioned.
I have no cigar stories other than dad standing on his porch looking at the bay with a stogie. I think my sentiments are right up there with Marci's. LOL I liked dad's pipe phase much better.
So what exactly is a "TA Service Center?" Or maybe I should not ask seeing as this is a family blog. LOL! That is a funny pic. What a fabulous day! The capsite looks pretty much deserted too. That's nice. Nothing worse than an overcrowded campsite IMO.
P.S. Hotter than heck here and getting hotter. You ain't missin much! supposed to be close to 100 on Sat. eeks!
Your campground looks perfect! But I wish you were still camping in our back yard. :( We all miss you!
Cigar story? Only cigar I've ever tried is one of those little skinny cherry flavored ones, way back when I was in high school. Loved the smell, hated the taste. :)
Aunt Barb
You know I think we want to go on your family trip next time!! You are making it sound so fun plus it is so great with all the educational things the kids are doing and learning.(I'm sorry Marci has to work and do her class -so she is missing out:-)on some things. Napping? Whats with that!
Ok we won't travel with you-just in case I scared you- but thanks for letting us share in your memories with the FROG.
Anxious for you guys to drop by on your way home to Colville. Travel safe, and love you guys, Grandma Beth
Cigar #2 - I have pictures of that cigar being smoked if anyone would like to see them :)

Golden Gate Park.....that was a wonderful moment my friend.
Who would have guessed, back in the day, that all those years later, long time blue-chip crack-pots hailing from such a different U of I era would still be crossing paths.....
I don't smoke many cigars...but whenever I do I always smile thinking of SF....Golden Gate Park...and the Purvis Family.
Man-alive...life is good: aint it!!
